Japa Warning: UK Visa fees just went up again!

Published on January 5, 2026

The UK government just increased the price for Health Insurance (IHS) that all visa seekers must pay. This means moving to the UK is now officially more expensive for Nigerians.

The Price Jump

For most people moving for work, you now need to add about ₦450,000 more to your total budget than you did last year. The flight prices are also jumping, so "Save as you go" is the new vibe.

New Budget Example:

If your UK trip used to cost ₦10 million, you should now aim for ₦10.5 million just to be safe from these "hidden" costs.

The "Proof of Funds" Exchange Rate Catch

People are searching for the current CBN rate for UK Visa every single morning, and for good reason! The rate the Embassy uses isn't always the one you see on Google. If the Naira drops overnight, your "Proof of Funds" might suddenly be too low, leading to an automatic refusal.

Street Tip: Always keep an extra 10-15% "buffer" in your account above the required amount to account for exchange rate volatility.

Next Step:

Redo your budget on our Japa Calculator. We’ve added the new 2026 UK rates so you don't get a "heart attack" at the embassy.
