Hoi Li’s Audit Alert: NRS Nigeria Portal – How to Check Your New TIN in 2 Minutes

Published on January 19, 2026

Hello again, my favorite in-law! Hoi Li here. As your family CPA, I've been getting a lot of panicky WhatsApp messages lately. "Hoi Li, I can't find my old FIRS paper!" or "Hoi Li, they said my TIN has changed!"

Calm down. The migration to the NRS (Nigeria Revenue Service) means the system is getting an upgrade, but you can find your details in less time than it takes to boil an egg. Head over to the official portal: taxid.nrs.gov.ng and follow these 3 simple methods.

Method 1: The "Digital Identity" Route (NIN)

This is the most reliable way. Since the NRS is now heavily linked with your National Identity, simply select Search by NIN. Enter your 11-digit NIN and your Date of Birth. If you've ever registered for anything in Nigeria recently, your TIN will pop right up.

Method 2: The "Mobile First" Route (Phone Number)

If you don't have your NIN card handy (I see you!), use the Search by Phone Number option. Use the number linked to your bank account or former FIRS profile. The system will verify your identity and display your tax record instantly.

Method 3: The "Business/BVN" Route

For my entrepreneurs and business owners, you can search using your BVN (for individuals/enterprises) or your CAC Registration Number (for companies). This is essential if you're trying to clear goods or apply for a government contract this month.

Why does this matter, In-law?

As your CPA, I'm telling you: Validation is the first step to Compliance. You cannot use the ₦800k exemption or claim rent relief if the NRS doesn't "see" you. Check it today and save yourself the stress at the bank!

Hoi Li's Audit Tip: Found your TIN? Great! Now make sure your details match your bank records. Discrepancies are a "High Risk" signal for the NRS digital auditors. Stay clean!
